Which Swiss Aquapark Goes For You ?
Switzerland may be famous for its mountains and chocolate, but did you know it also has some amazing waterparks? If you’re planning a fun day (or weekend) with the kids, your partner, or friends, there are two top places to check out: Alpamare and Splash & Spa Tamaro. These two parks are very different in style — one is full-on water action, the other mixes relaxation with fun. Let’s dive into both and help you choose the one that’s perfect for your next getaway.
Alpamare is located in Pfäffikon, close to Lake Zurich, and it’s famous for being the largest covered waterpark in Switzerland. The moment you enter, you feel the excitement in the air — this is a place built for thrill lovers, kids, and active families.
There are 12 water slides in total, and many of them are really fast and twisty. One favorite is the Cobra, a steep slide that gives you a real adrenaline rush. If you like speed, try the Balla Balla — it’s like flying in a tube! But not everything is extreme. There’s also a warm Alpine river, indoor and outdoor pools, and a nice wave pool that makes you feel like you’re swimming in the sea.
So much fun for all ages! Slides are awesome, and my kids didn’t want to go home. We stayed almost all day.
Alpamare also has a wellness area with saunas and thermal baths, so adults can relax a bit too while the kids are busy. You can easily spend a full day here, and the covered space means it’s open all year, rain or shine.
Good to know: There are several hotels nearby, like Seedamm Plaza, and budget guesthouses for families who want to stay overnight.
Splash & Spa Tamaro
Now let’s travel south to Ticino, near the Italian-speaking part of Switzerland, and discover Splash & Spa Tamaro. It’s a very different vibe here — stylish, modern, and a mix of spa, wellness, and waterpark all in one.
For water lovers, there are five big slides with names like Tunnel of Horror and Black Night — they’re dark, fast, and super fun for teens and adventurous adults. There’s also a wave pool, a kids’ area with mini slides, and a lovely outside pool with views of the mountains. In summer, you can tan on the terrace between swims.
But what makes this park special is the Spa section. You can enjoy saunas, steam baths, salt rooms, and even book a massage or beauty treatment. It feels more like a holiday resort than a simple waterpark.
We went as a couple and loved the spa side. Everything was super clean and peaceful. The waterpark side was fun too, especially the outdoor pool with a view!
Good to know: It’s close to Lugano, so you can stay in town or book a hotel in Rivera, just a few minutes away.
So, Which Park Is Better For You?
Families with kids
Alpamare is the top pick. It has more slides, family-friendly zones, and all-day energy. The place is busy and full of action — perfect for children who want to run, splash, and try every slide five times.
Splash & Spa also has space for kids, but the main focus is on relaxing and style. So it might be a better fit for families with older children or teens who like both fun and chill.
Couples
Splash & Spa wins this one. The spa side is quiet and romantic, and the warm pools with mountain views are made for two. You can even enjoy a massage together or sip a smoothie by the water.
Groups of friends or teens
Both parks can be fun, but if you’re a group that wants to race down slides, scream on the curves, and just go wild — Alpamare is the place. If your group prefers a mix — some want spa, some want slides — then Splash & Spa is the better match.
It’s great when you have choices for all tastes and circumstances.
So ask yourself — are you in the mood for slides and splashes, or saunas and sunsets?
